Relationship Coaching Versus Couples Therapy
Couples often ask about the difference between couples therapy and coaching. Coaching focuses on the present and centers around working as collaborative facilitators. You will learn to better understand one another and discover solutions for your specific issues together. Coaches help couples move from where they are to where they want to be and recognize the unique skills, gifts, and attachment styles of each individual.
Coaches will not tell you what to do, but will help you develop independence in figuring out what will work best for you as a couple. If coaching is not the right fit, we can provide various counseling/support resources that may be a better fit for your immediate needs.
Relationship Coaching
Gives couples new tools and helps them apply those tools to achieve the marriage they want. Marriage Coaching creates a partnership between the coaches and the couples they coach. Coaches are experts on the process; couples are experts on their relationship and ultimately have the answers.
Individuals or couples may also engage in coaching when they are not seeking to solve problems, but to have a collaborative partner to help them continue to grow and dive deeper into their relationship in creative ways.
Couples Therapy
As noted above, couples therapy is for couples that need more specialized help to address past hurts, mental health issues, or other behaviors that are beyond coaching. Therapy can also be longer-term term while Coaching can be a shorter-term, less-intensive solution. There is a significant overlap where coaching and counseling can help couples.
